As an official language in Canada, French is indispensable for many positions in Federal and Provincial governments in order to perform the duties of the job and to communicate to the public. The Federal government must provide services to both English and French-speaking Canadians in the language of their choice. To provide this bilingual requirement, the Canadian government can either train an employee to their second language or fill the position with a bilingual candidate. In both case the person will be evaluated with the Second Language Evaluation prescribed by the Public Service Commission.
